The Justice Center is a 104,000 square foot building separated into two main areas, detention and office. Detention is a pre-adjudication facility that houses juveniles for approximately 30 to 60 days. The two-story housing area or pod is further separated into two units to make up this 102-bed facility. Each of these pod areas has a central security area, which offers full view of the housing areas to increase the safety of the residents and staff. Connecting the two pod units are the common areas for exercise, activity, dining and classrooms that also have a central security area for staff to view the common areas.

The two-story office area is connected to the detention with a public corridor and main entry and lobby. Office areas of this facility include two courtrooms, judges’ chambers, public defender, states attorney, circuit court clerk and probation. Defendants enter the courtroom area via a secure passageway, which is unseen to the public. This facility was designed to accommodate all juvenile justice concerns in Will County.
